Ketek & Liver Failure

Ketek® or Telithromycin - is a prescription antibiotic manufactured by Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Ketek® is in the class of antibacterial agents known as ketolides and was approved for use in the United States in April, 2004. Since then, approximately 5 million prescriptions for Ketek® have been written.

On January 20, 2006, the FDA advised the public that the Annals of Internal Medicine had published an article reporting three patients who experienced serious liver toxicity following administration of Ketek (telithromycin). Of the three cases, one patient needed a liver transplant and another died. Examination of these patient's livers showed massive tissue death. All the patients had been healthy prior to their use of Ketek.

If you or a loved one has used Ketek and developed liver problems, please contact us by filling out the form below.
